We’re gonna build something this summer.
The Hold Steady, “Constructive Summer“
Despite all of my ambition at the beginning of 2023 — and the song I quoted above playing on repeat for most of May — I did not build something this summer. I forked and updated a WordPress plugin that I really loved, and then I went on autopilot.
Wake up. Eat. Work. Eat. More work. Eat. Hang out with Sarah and the dogs. Stare at my phone. Sleep. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Reader, I was languishing. And I felt painfully aware of just how much I was.
I did keep making attempts to break myself out of this months long spiral. This domain, for example, was purchased with the intent of being a webring. But then I couldn’t find a starter project on GitHub that I liked, and I didn’t have it in me to build my own from scratch.
Then there was my foray into being a Firefish (née Calckey) instance admin. That stalled out because I could never manage to get transactional email working on the server. And email is kind of necessary when you’re providing folks you may not know with a service where they might need to reset their passwords.
Since I’m apparently starting a new blog on this domain, I’m pretty sure that the webring is sunk. At least for now. I do think that the Firefish instance is worth another attempt. I just have to be more patient and get over how truly terrible Firefish’s documentation is.
(A Matrix chatroom ≠ documentation, folks.)
I mean, there’s always the fall, right?
